THESE CHAINS
I
can remember the day
when someone first told me
what I felt in my heart should be gone.
I
remember the embarrassment,
the
grief and the wondering
as
I questioned why I was so wrong.
I
wonder if they know what they stole from me
How
they robbed me of the joy of my youth.
They forced me to wander in a dark place
full of pain that could not be soothed.
I
finally found my way back to life
as
I learned what it means to be gay.
Whenever I feel those chains on my soul,
I
break them and throw them away.
